On the 30th May I had a consultation for a 2nd opinion with Mr Simon Lambert regarding a shoulder injury. It's such a relief to come under the expert care of a surgeon who is from the start, genuinely concerned and compassionate towards your pain. He listened at length to my symptoms, examined my shoulder and spent time to explain the scans. He made sure I understood the problems and importantly what could be done to fix them. Basically a true professional, as a patient you couldn't ask for any more. I was already aware of Mr Lambert's skill as a surgeon when I was fortunate to come under his care some 18 years ago following a sports injury to my Bicep/ shoulder. It was a difficult fix after numerous unavoidable delays, in the end requiring a reconstruction operation. I was, and still am extremely grateful to Mr Lambert for the care and dedication he showed then to get me back to full fitness, he realised he wasn't just dealing with the physical scars and that means a lot ! . Thank you for your professional help Mr Lambert. BUPA please put Mr Lambert on the list!

I had a part shoulder replacement 4-yrs ago which was unsuccessful. I was recommended to Mr Simon Lambert by another orthopediic consultant as being an expert in diagnosing and repairing other surgeons failures. His care and understanding of my particular problem was remarkable - he went to great lengths and time to explain what was wrong and how he could correct it. He even showed me before and after scans from a patient with exactly my problems that he had repaired some months previously. I went into the consultation somewhat sceptical but came out totally confident that there was a solution to my problem and I was committed to have the re-work done to fix it.

I have seen Mr. Lambert as a result of a misdiagnosis in a Casualty department in another hospital after a traumatic fall whilst on holiday. I only wish I had seen him soon afterwards instead of receiving incorrect treatment elsewhere. Tomorrow I will finally have his capable hands attending to my complex restorative surgery and I have been greatly reassured by his gentle, expert, highly informative care. His approach is sensitive, straightforward and never patronising. At the initial meeting it was clear within minutes that I was finally in the presence of an expert in his field and crucially - an excellent communicator. I have no fear about the difficult procedure I will have tomorrow. I am grateful to have full confidence that the operation will go well.

I visited Mr Lambert after having 5 shoulder dislocations. Before my appointment I was feeling very hopeless, thinking that I would never be able to do the sports and physical activities I am passionate about without the fear of dislocation. Mr Lambert was hugely attentive when I described to him what I wanted to get out of my appointment with him and I immediately felt at ease in his company. He incredibly thoroughly assessed the physical capabilities of my shoulder, and this made me certain the advice he gave me would be good. I left the appointment with a clear plan about how to improve my shoulder. This plan was centred around physiotherapy not an operation. This also made me trust Mr Lambert's judgement as having an operation would make me his patient for longer and so be financially beneficial to him, therefore telling me that this wasn't necessary proved that he had my best interest at heart. I now feel very confident that I can solve my shoulder problem and continue doing the physical activities I love. Thank you very much Mr Lambert!

Profile

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in the shoulder and elbow. I also hold an honorary academic appointment within University College London. Having worked at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), a specialist orthopaedic hospital, where I created a research-active, educationally-acclaimed, science-based service, integrated with and recognising the extreme importance of expert rehabilitation, I have now moved to University College London Hospital. We enjoy a national reputation for clinical excellence and clinical research, which I fully expect to contribute to over the next decade. We value our national and international collaborations, and expect to develop these further with the evolution of the service. As a component of this effort my work with the AO has offered opportunities to younger colleagues while bringing the values of the AO to a wide variety of surgeons and therapists. Truly international collaboration and exchange of ideas clearly enhances and promotes the efficacy of patient-directed care and forms the basis for the motivation behind my development of the shoulder and elbow service at UCLH.
